The Catholic Church often refer to Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Fátima or Our Beloved Mother of Fátima. She is also called the Lady of Rosary and many other names/titles.
Fátima is a city in Portugal where three children had a couple of visits by angels and Virgin Mary in 1916-1918. They angels taught them prayers and to make to make sacrifices. Virign Mary told them to say the Holy Rosary daily to obtain peace and stop the Great War. She also told them many secrets and revelations. These apparitions caught the churchs and medias attention. And soon the city became a city of pilgrimage.
In Catholic church Mary is the greatest among the saints. She is not officially been canonized by the church. And according to Catholic teaching she is not considered divine and prayers to her is not answered by her, but by God through her intercession.
What place do Virgin Mary have in the Catholic Church. I would say number one. She is the center of their devotion, prayers and worship. Mary is the star (the Lady more brilliant than the Sun). They have more festivals, prayers, devotional and venerative practices than any other churches.
In the Bible Mary is seldom mentioned. There is only two conversations between Jesus and his mother Mary in the Bible. That was in the «wedding in Cana». Then he reffered to his Mother as Woman and told her basically to shut up and don’t meddle with him. But as a loving mother and the knowledge of Jesus true nature she didn’t stop nagging him and Jesus began with his first miracle. Making wine out of water. And the other time Jesus hang on the cross and his mother stood by the cross with two other Marys and the disciple whom Jesus loved (maybe John?). And Jesus told his Mother: «Woman, behold thy son!» – He was reffering to the disciple (maybe John).
Mary was not virgin all her life. After she gave birth to Jesus she had intercourse with Joseph and she had a couple of more children: Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” Luke 8.19-21
So we cannot find anything in the Bible that support the teaching of Mary being a superior Saint that has a signifitant place in the Upper Seat in Heaven. She was one of many disciples that had one goal – show the world the love of Jesus and tell the world that Jesus had died on the cross to pay for our debts and sins. And that Jesus was the way to God. That we don’t need no priest, no saints, no pope to get us closer to God. We have direct connection to God by the Holy Spirit and because when Jesus died on the cross the veil in the temple tored apart to give us free access 24/7.
No need for us to pray to Mary for support. She cannot answer our prayers. She cannot intervene and go to God on your behalf. You have direct connection to God yourself. You can come as you are. Nothing you do will make God love you more. And nothing you do will make God love you less. No need to wear mask when you come to God just to be in His presence or to pray to Him.
